2018.08.20 - Prison Bars

I once heard of a man who ruled a kingdom. The man was very fat and very self centered and thought only of indulging himself at every turn.  He did not lead and did not care for his people, just himself.  His brother attacked the kingdom and gained control.  His brother was a good and honest man – a good leader.  The brother who was now in control built a prison “room” for the fat and selfish brother.  The room was lavish, no expense was spared and food was continually brought before the fat and selfish brother.  The interesting thing is that the room, the prison, had no bars, no locks nothing at all. The doors were built to the size of a normal person, so were the windows.  All the selfish mad had to do was to restrain himself from eating, and he could literally walk out of his prison.  The story ended with the fat selfish man dying in the room, the prison, which his own heart condemned him to!

Many live inside of prison walls without bars, prisons built by the hardness of their hearts.  Unable to move forward in life and love, unable to capture the essence of what it really means to live they imprison themselves without even knowing that they have the very key to what is holding them fast.

The Word of God has much to say about the condition of a man’s heart . . .

1 Samuel 16:6 And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD's anointed is before him. 7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. KJV

Matthew 13:58And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief. KJV

Mark 6:5And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. KJV

Robert WareI have watched this several times and each time and more troubled. I think the passage he was referring to was Mark 6:5. Of note is that Jesus DID heal people in this passage at this time, also of note that Mark did not consider this a "mighty work." Mark wanted to see, just as Jesus wanted/wants to see, peoples hearts turned to the Father. I agree with you Blake Long, it is never appropriate, in my humble opinion, to say that Jesus "can't" do something. I think his heart was calling to the hearts of those around Him and THEY chose to not believe after given all the evidence. Jesus, in reality, COULD force His Love upon us, but He CHOOSES to allow us a choice. That offer in no wise diminishes His Omniscience, Power, or Godhood. He can do whatever He chooses, He just loves us enough to allow us to choose to either love or not love Him in return. Thoughts?

Robert WareAlso, Matthew 13:58 sums up a little cleaner when it states that He "did not do" which illustrates that it was indeed Christs choice, not that He was not able . . .if that makes sense

2018.08.15 - Revelation VS Knowledge

     I.        The Voice of The Shepherd

  II.        What I Have Seen Versus What I Have Heard

a.   Would you rather have heaven explained to you or experience it for yourself?

b.   While God doesn’t want us to get lost in experiences and the emotional “high” of being with and near Him, we CAN experience His Presence in greater ways as we learn to walk with Him.

c.   Peter had heard what others were saying but made a determination of the matter based on what he himself had experienced

1.    What Is The Wilderness?

a.     Heb. midhbar, denoting not a barren desert but a district or region suitable for pasturing sheep and cattle'

                             i.        Psalms 65:12They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness: and the little hills rejoice on every side. 13 The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with corn; they shout for joy, they also sing.KJV

                           ii.        Joel 1:19O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.KJV

2.    Old Testament - A Place of Death 

a.    Numbers 14:30Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun. 31 But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised. 32 But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness. 33 And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.KJV

3.    New Testament - A Place of Death - And Power

2018.08.05 - Breaking Barriers

It was first achieved in 1954 by Roger Bannister in 3:59.4. The "four-minute barrier" has since been broken by over 1,400 male athletes, and is now the standard of all male professional middle distance runners. In the last 50 years the mile record has been lowered by almost 17 seconds, and currently stands at 3:43.13.

 Bryant reminds us that runners had been chasing the goal seriously since at least 1886, and that the challenge involved the most brilliant coaches and gifted athletes in North America, Europe, and Australia. “For years milers had been striving against the clock, but the elusive four minutes had always beaten them,” he notes. “It had become as much a psychological barrier as a physical one. And like an unconquerable mountain, the closer it was approached, the more daunting it seemed.”

When Bannister broke the mark, even his most ardent rivals breathed a sigh of relief. At last, somebody did it! And once they saw it could be done, they did it too. Just 46 days Bannister’s feat, John Landy, an Australian runner, not only broke the barrier again, with a time of 3 minutes 58 seconds. Then, just a year later, three runners broke the four-minute barrier in a single race. Over the last half century, more than a thousand runners have conquered a barrier that had once been considered hopelessly out of reach.
