Genesis 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. KJV

 

·       In the sense of the Church it is Judas's kiss and departure from Christ and Peters statement of faith - thou art the Christ . . .with Naomi it was the sense of Paul being followed as he followed Christ. 

·       Ruth "clave" unto her 

o   OT:1692 dabaq (daw-bak'); a primitive root; properly, to impinge, i.e. cling or adhere; figuratively, to catch by pursuit: KJV - abide fast, cleave (fast together), follow close (hard after), be joined (together), keep (fast), overtake, pursue hard, stick, take.

·       In the sense of Naomi it was the fact that no matter how little you have to give and how broken you are and how at the bottom you have found yourself you always have Something to give, in this season all she had was to lead Ruth "home" and that she did.

·         . . .unto her gods . . . - this was a huge things for Ruth to do, to stay w/ Naomi was to stay w/  her God

·       it echoes the words of  the previous verse where Ruth "clave" to Naomi.

·       It also hints of Genesis 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. KJV in the sense that Ruth has a desire to be faithful, to both her deceased husband and to his mother and to her God to whom she has been introduced to

·       It also hints of Acts 26:28 Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian . KJV where the story closes on Agrippa as did Orpah and we never hear from them again.

a.     Intreat - OT:6293 paga` (paw-gah'); a primitive root; to impinge, by accident or violence, or (figuratively) by importunity: KJV - come (betwixt), cause to entreat, fall (upon), make intercession, intercessor, intreat, lay, light [upon], meet (together), pray, reach, run.

(John 6:68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life . 69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God. KJV

b.     Matthew 14:28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. 29 And he said, Come. c.     Ruth was stating the fact that she was in need of Naomi to deepen her walk with God and that she was willing to do whatever it took to make that happen

d.     It was likley that her statements of faith were as much about God and her love and endearment for Him as they were for Naomi - the passion and heart of a new believer and look what is and can be accomplished if the person discipling them leads them in the right direction

a.      Even in the hard times, especially in the hard times others are watching and with all the sorrow and brokenness that Naomi felt adn went through, Ruth saw someting in her life that was better than what she had known and she decided to follow her and trust in her God

1. She was hopeful that they ladies would return to their origin and live out a full life and

   be married again . . .

2. It was likely plausible but there were not operating on their behalf's the laws and

   customs of the People of God, no Kinsam Redeemer would come from the path back

   to Moab

3. Likely that Orpah would have also been espoused again by the law of the Kinsman

   Redeemer had she gone to BJ.

   only looking at what she could see directly in front of her

2. We can so easily become blinded by our situation to what is really going on and all the

   Provision that God has laid in store for us

a. THE widow woman, this wasn’t just any woman, this was the woman God had destined and whose life God had ordered to be here for such a time as this.

b. She had a commandment from God placed on her life for supernatural blessing that she was not aware of and that could not happen unless famine had come upon her, such as was with Naomi!

                             ii.         There were seeds of faith that were watered by the Good Word of  The Lord

                           iv.         She realized what she was missing and the cost of her being in Moab was greater than any cost there might be for returning home

·       Comes a time to move.  Whether it be the moving of the cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night or the realization that I am not where God intended me to be, either physically or spiritually

1.      . . .GO . . .

a.     The offer, the temptation to return, was not made at home, it was made while IN THE JOURNEY.

                              i.         This was a choice about life and death, were they going to serve God or self

                            ii.         Here right smack dab in the middle of a journey was an altar of decision, a crossroads. They were just trying to figure it all out and here was this most serious of choices that must be made.  Why does it seem that in the most dire of times comes the hardest of tests?  The life changing moments don’t come when we are rooted with sword in hand but rather mostly when we have been wounded and lie seemingly naked and vulnerable 

1.     Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest . 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. KJV

2.      . . .return . . .

a.     This is the same word from Ruth 1:7, now the choice is most clear, they are not home yet, they were somewhere in the journey and the choice was to RETURN home or RETURN to Bethlehem Judah, and for the two of them they must make a choice between something they had heard about and something they knew well and were comfortable with .   

                              i.         Hebrews 11:8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. 9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: 10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. KJV

3.      . . Each to her mothers house . . .

a.     To go forward meant together, to go back meant separation

                              i.         You can almost see the transaction between Christ and Peter in the New Testament . . .

1.     John 6:66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. 67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? 68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of  eternal life. 69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God. KJV

b.      There was  measure of safety, of security, of what was known in going back. 

                              i.         Their culture and way of life

                            ii.         Their families and friends

                           iii.         Their familiar
