2023.12.31 - The End Of One Thing . . .

Hebrews 12:1-2

12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. KJV

  • Lay aside - to put away, cast off,
  • Weight - mass bulging by its load, burden, hindrance,

Joy that was set before Him . . .

  • You are tired and perhaps ready to give up, but you must "look beyond what you can see" by faith and see what is in your future
  • You need to see the end!
  • The nails hurt, the betrayal hurt, the pain hurt, but He endured because He looked beyond it . . . He saw Himself with us in Heaven w/ The Father, He saw His assignment completed, He heard "well done"

The end of one thing is most generally the beginning of something else, the decision of whether we are walking into a good thing or bad thing is ours, God has already made up His mind, we must make up ours

  • Atrophy - non use, lack of change allows what we have become to waste away
  • When we stop fighting we start losing
  • If we stop fighting we become stagnant and refuse to find reasons to stay - or stay for the wrong reasons
    • Remember what Jesus said about our hearts . . .
    • Must learn to see past the pain, past the present to the Promise

The reason we start something is not always the reason we end or complete it

  • Reason we got married VS reasons we stay married
  • Reasons we got saved VS reasons we stay saved
    • Salvation doesn’t deliver us from life - but rather death.
    • I may have come to Him out of desperation but I stayed because of love!
    • Sometimes we need to be "delivered from" life
      • Everyday trials, tribulations and suckiness
      • We must learn to look past it all
      • Pain may force you to go to the doctor but doesn’t always remind us to take our meds! We have to see beyond the pain
      • Salvation can turn from a get out of hell free card to a get into Heaven free card
        • Perspective

How you see your now will determine how you see your then

  • You cannot rewrite your past but you can redefine it . . .
    • What the enemy meant for evil God meant for good!
    • I redefine the trials as a boot camp that only made me stronger
      • In my faith
      • In my marriage
      • In my walk w/ God
      • Against sin, self will and flesh

How you came into 2023 is not how  you have to go out . . .

  • Are you a refugee or a conqueror you may have come into this year a refugee by you can leave it a conqueror

2023.12.24 - Christmas Eve - The King Is Coming!

Scripture - Luke 2:1-7

Luke 2:1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

2(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)

3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. KJV

Song - Oh Holy Night

Scripture - Luke 2:8-14

Luke 2:8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. KJV

Song - Silent Night, Hark The Herald Angels Sing

Scripture - Luke 2:15-21

Luke 2:15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

21 And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb. KJV

Prophetic Scripture - Isaiah 9:6

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. KJV

Song - O Come All Ye Faithful

Sermon  - The King Is Coming

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever.  KJV

John came to "herald" Jesus

Luke 1:17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.  KJV

You and I are "heralds"

Luke 1:32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. KJV

2023.12.17 - Labels

Being a slave to bonds is bad - being a slave to words and thoughts could be even worse.

John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed KJV

  • Shall make free . . .NT:1659 eleutheroo (el-yoo-ther-o'-o); from NT:1658; to liberate, i.e. (figuratively) to exempt (from moral, ceremonial or mortal liability):

KJV - deliver, make free.

  • Free . . .NT:1658 eleutheros (el-yoo'-ther-os); probably from the alternate of NT:2064; unrestrained (to go at pleasure), i.e. (as a citizen) not a slave (whether freeborn or manumitted), or (genitive case) exempt (from obligation or liability): KJV - free (man, woman), at liberty.
    • What they say about you can only hold you captive if you let it.  The moment you decide you are more than what they say is the moment you come into agreement with  The Word of God

Your worth is not decided according to the price tag the world puts on you but what someone is willing to pay for you. - Christ gave His life for you - He puts that much worth on you!

Stuff for sale on Facebook for extreme amounts

1 Corinthians 7:23 God purchased you at a high price. Don't be enslaved by the world.   NLT

1 Corinthians 7:23 You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men. NKJV

  • Your worth is not decided according to the price tag the world puts on you but what someone is willing to pay for you.
  • I see a tag on something for sale - I may or may not decide to purchase it for that price - in that sense it is me, not the tag, that chooses the worth of the item

If you don’t decide who you are there are those around you that will gladly tell you . . .and it should not be so.

The reason they put you down is because they have the power, if you let them, to keep you down.  God wants to raise you up.

From "Tougher Than Nails" a few weeks back

Romans 8:32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. KJV

2023.12.10 - Faith Light

Proverbs 4:18

18 But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. KJV

1 Thessalonians 5:1-5

5:1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. KJV

2 Corinthians 5:7

7(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

KJV

Where you look is where you will go - Christine Caine

By faith . . .

Hebrews 11:4-10

4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith .

8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. KJV

My faith goes before me, opening doors in the Spirit that I will need to walk through in my future that right now I don’t even know exists

Flashlight sermon illustration

Joshua 3:1-4

3:1 And Joshua rose early in the morning; and they removed from Shittim, and came to Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over.

2 And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went through the host;

3 And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.

4 Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore.

KJV

God may move us into a place where we have not been before and have no idea how to navigate the new surroundings.

  • He often places others in our lives to assist us in this process, others to watch, to ask questions of and to learn from
    • When Bobby was born we didn’t know how to burp him, the simplest of things, but you don’t know what you don’t know.  A very close friend of ours came to the rescue, grabbed him up and started pounding on his back.  We were quite certain she was going to kill him, or at least break him . . .but low and behold he let out a man sized burp that we still remember to this day

Don’t just let them know you are a Christian but let them know what kind of Christian you are!!

When we judge others we turn out the light and they may never find their way home in the dark

2023.12.06 - Safe And Secure

Safe And Secure

Wednesday, November 8, 2023

4:26 PM

Luke 9:23-24

23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. KJV

Galatians 2:20

20 I am crucified with Christ : nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. KJV

  • If I have died and my all is in Christ I have nothing to lose. I cannot lose
  • You can’t kill me - my sin already did that and Christ gave me life that you cannot take away.

Car Alarms -

  • What I have that is of value has been placed in the security of Christ, and He is able
    • 2 Timothy 1:12

12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. KJV

  • insecurity comes from knowing that I have something  I can lose - something that can be taken from me that is beyond my control to hold on to or keep safe

Pour Me Out Lord

  • Live like you have nothing to to prove but rather have only someone to be
    • Spiritual authority
  • 2 Timothy 4:1-8

4:1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;

2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.

7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. KJV

2023.12.03 - CRISIS - Tough As Nails

Psalms 1:1-3

1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

KJV

When what is see doesn’t make sense I remind myself of what He said . . . And that is hard!

Church isn't easy - it was never supposed to be

Calling things that were not as though they were

You are tougher than you think you are

  • The closest a woman will come to actual death without dying is giving birth
  • The closest a man will come is having a cold, a hang nail, a sore throat or . . . You fill in the blanks, LOL

He may not resurrect the thing, but He wants to resurrect the part of you that died with the thing

  • Resurrected things HAVE life and GIVE life
  • God wants to birth something new in and through a reborn you.
  • Part of a rebirth of a Christian is a mental shift to do  and be and believe what they could not before - now through Christ.
    •  rebirth and resurrection allows is to Believe in a capacity that we were simply not able to before
  • The resilience God has placed inside of you is nothing less that superhuman, beyond the limits of human capability - it is from Divine

Psalms 121

121:1 A Song of degrees. I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

2 My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.

6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

7 The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

8 The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

KJV

Ephesians 3:20-4:1

20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

KJV

  • Ephesians 3:20

Prove it - YOU ARE SAVED AND YOU ALREADY KNOW IT, YOU HAVE FELT A QUICKENING IN YOUR SPIRIT AND KNOW THAT YOU KNOW THAT YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE NOT THE SAME!

Romans 8:26-9:1

26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

KJV

You are tough as nails - and God may well have driven you into the fabric of your broken family to hold it together

2023.11.26 - CRISIS - Breakthrough

2023.11.26 - Breakthrough (Cinder block wall, broken w/ hammer on stage)

Friday, November 24, 2023

9:50 PM

Something is about to be broken . . .

James 5:17-18

17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.KJV

  • James 5:17 -   Doesn’t that sound so wonderful and tidy,  so neat and ultra spiritual. But read the original account

1 Kings 18:41-46

41 And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.

42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,

43 And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.

44 And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man's hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.

45 And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.

46 And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel. KJV

The real question to is to know, that you know, that you KNOW what it is that God has said, what He has promised is what He WILL DO . . . 1 Kings 18:1

18:1 And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the LORD came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, shew thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.KJV

  • Serve notice on planet earth - 1 Kings 18:8

8 And he answered him, I am: go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here. KJV

  • Rise up in faith - 1 Kings 18:41

41 And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.

KJV

Every prayer in faith and act of faith is a violent attack on the stronghold of the enemy.  Those walls may still be standing today  - BUT. THEY. WILL. COME.  DOWN!!

God wants to remind you again that you may not have been the first but you can be the last . . .

  • You may not have been the first in your family
    • To be hooked on drugs
    • To have a failed marriage
    • To have a horrible upbringing
    • To struggle with secret sin
    • To regret not getting saved sooner
      • BUT  YOU CAN BE THE LAST!
  • You may not be the last one in your family
    • To be gloriously saved by His Grace and Mercy
    • To be filled w/ the Holy Ghost
    • To Cast out demons
    • To walk where angels alone have tread
    • To call upon The Name Of The Lord
      • BUT YOU MAY BE THE FIRST!!

It took longer to get it to rain than it did to get it to stop raining.

2023.11.19 - Don’t Look Back

2023.11.19 - CRISIS - Don’t Look Back

Tuesday, October 31, 2023

1:24 PM

RECAP

  • We are not struggling to survive - we are struggling to be born again
  • The gateway of struggling and suffering  is often the Door of Promotion
  • You want to rebuild - God wants to rebirth
  • We can have years to prepare and still not be ready when the time comes,
  • Frogs are born into one world and grow to live in another- whales can drown in the water and suffocate on land.
  • If we fail to look past the past and even the present towards Heaven, we may fail to reach it
  • Don’t get trapped in a moment - capture the moment but don’t let it capture you.
  • Memories of the past should set you free not hold you back
  • God may not resurrect the thing that died, but He may well resurrect the part of you that died with the thing
  • Your world has not ended - just the world as you know it

Lot's wife was in no danger at all - as long as she did what she was told by God

  • Her entire world and all that she knew was literally burning to the ground, behind her.  BEHIND HER. God had made provision to deliver her, before the fire began to fall
  • She was hurting, afraid, and suffering great loss in her life as a parent and citizen of a city and culture that was burning down around her - but in all that she was perfectly SAFE , though NOT perfectly COMFORTABLE
  • Some miss their blessing because they can’t navigate through the people
  • Everybody was touching Him but not everybody was being healed

Make sure there is a crossing over time

“Remember Lot's wife.”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭17:32‬ ‭KJV‬‬

https://bible.com/bible/1/luk.17.32.KJV

We aren’t told her name because we already know it

  • Regret
  • Fear
  • Doubt
  • Mediocrity
  • Unrealized dreams and wants
  • Pride
  • Self

Hebrews 12:1-2

12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. KJV

Forgetting the things that are behind . . .

  • Nothing would ever be the same so why look back
  • We glorify the past as if it was all that but with time we can and do forget how bad things really were
  • You spend years preparing and still not be "ready" to let go and go
  • It is easier to look behind in our "sight" and see what we are leaving behind instead of looking ahead by "faith" and see what we have  to gain

The world has changed - God has not

  • Malachi 3:6

6 For I am the LORD, I change not; KJV

  • Hebrews 13:8

8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. KJV

Remember Lot's wife

Remember - NT:3421 mnemoneuo (mnay-mon-yoo'-o); from a derivative of NT:3420; to exercise memory, i.e. recollect; by implication to punish; also to rehearse:

KJV - make mention; be mindful, remember.

Lot - veil, covering, cast, wrap

Wife -

She was torn between what she was leaving and where she was going

  • Sometimes when you leave something, even a season, it becomes hard to separate the good from the bad.  She must have had some good memories there, she certainly had family and friends and a home to be loved there but still Sodom was a horrible place of wickedness and evil
    • We can become attached to seasons and feelings just as we can become attached to people and places

It is important to note that she was following Lot - her body was moving in one direction while the rest of her remained in a burning down city.  We can say we are following The Lord but our heart may not be in it

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. KJV

You can be the first . . . Or the last in your family to do something

You can be the first to break free from addiction, bondage, pain, fear or mediocrity.

You can be the last person in your family to face this generational curse, this addiction, this mentality.

We don’t get the results we want when we want so we stop trying - we succumb to the past because that is all w know

Being a follower of Jesus means that we follow Him, all the way, to where He is, to where He is calling.  I don’t just get to where I want me to be then sit down and wait for the trumpet to sound, I follow Him to where He is, and to where He wants me to be

2023.11.15 - CRISIS - The Press

She passed through the crowd.

Some miss their blessing because they can’t navigate through the people

Everybody was touching Him but not everybody was being healed

She was able to push past what others had done to her and reach out with faith to lay hold of her healing

Mark 5:22-34

22 And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,

23 And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.

24 And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.

25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,

26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,

27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.

28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.

29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?

31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me ?

32 And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.

33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

KJV

He that will take, get possession of the kingdom of righteousness, peace, and spiritual joy, must be in earnest: all hell will oppose him in every step he takes; and if a man be not absolutely determined in give up his sins and evil companions, and have his soul saved at all hazards, and at every expense, he will surely perish everlastingly. This requires a violent earnestness.

(from Adam Clarke's Commentary,

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am persuaded , that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

2023.11.08 - CRISIS - The Great In Between

Deuteronomy 34

  • we know that Moses was dead, and that God had buried him
  • We know Israel mourned for thirty days
    • In their time of mourning there was no time of moving

Joshua 1:1-2

1:1 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying,

2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. KJV

Joshua 2:1

2:1 And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot's house, named Rahab, and lodged there. KJV

Joshua 3:1-4

3:1 And Joshua rose early in the morning; and they removed from Shittim, and came to Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over.

2 And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went through the host;

KJV

MINDSET

The children of Israel were out of Egypt - but there heart was still there

  • They were still slaves in their minds and mindsets
  • They made the past seem better than it actually was
  • Often what we need is a renewing of our minds, we have been set free physically and spiritually but our minds are still in the past, stuck in the old way of thinking and doing
  • They saw themselves not as bold children of God but as grasshoppers - and grasshoppers is what they acted like

If we are not careful we will become spiritual transients when it comes to spiritual things

  • Transient means momentary, temporary, no lasting only a short time
  • If we fail to look past the past and even the present towards Heaven, we may fail to reach it

TIME TO MOVE

Moses is dead - it is time to move on

  • God wants us to have a time of mourning - but He also wants that time to be limited and He tells us when it is time to move past that moment.  (rlware - we may never get OVER somethings but we need to get PAST them)
  • Ecclesiastes teaches us that there is a time for everything - sometimes it is just time to move on
  • Don’t get trapped in a moment - capture the moment but don’t let it capture you.

Your pain cannot and should not be the only thing that ties you to the past.

  • There should be great memories, stones from the middle of the Jordan - to mark where we have come from but those places and memories are only markers, not prisons or idols.
  • Memories of the past should set you free not hold you back

Jacob/Joseph

  • Jacob noted that he would mourn the loss of Joseph until he died
    • It isn't that God can't heal the past, sometimes it is that we will not let him
  • Our holding on will not keep that thing or person alive, but it will allow US to remain in the past and even die there - if we do not get free we will become like zombies - we are moving around like we are alive but we are really dead inside

RESURRECTION AND CHANGE

God may not resurrect the thing that died, but He may well resurrect the part of you that died with the thing - but remember, resurrection always brings change - you cannot just go back to life like it was before, old coping mechanisms, allowing old triggers, you cannot just go back and live and die like you did but live like you haven't .

Your world has not ended - just the world as you know it

It did happen but God wants to lead us through it

Psalms 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. KJV

It isn't what we think about our readiness for change and transition but rather what God thinks

No one is exempt from the Great In Between - we all face it. Look at the comments of Christ on the cross

  • "why have You forsaken Me?"
  • The Great Between is never an easy place
  • Israel wandered because of mindsets
  • past chains still bound their thinking and in doing so bound also their movement forward into victory and promise
  • Paul
    • Philippians 1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

22 But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.

23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:

24 Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you. KJV

  • Samuel -
    • 1 Samuel 16:1 And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons. KJV
  • Married People

When we move or get married we need to embrace those things, we cannot just pine for the past but must learn a new future.

Marriage is not what we might have thought that it would be, some, instead of embracing the change and the reality of the new thing are stuck in the middle.  We can get stuck because we have been taught to go on our feelings and so often we don’t "feel" any different, we have not yet learned to walk in faith and we go by what we feel.

  • Saved In Soul Only

We can get saved under duress and once the "pain" has eased up forget that we have a new life to live and to learn, in that sense we go back to what we know and do what we have always done, not learning about our new life and ending up right back where we started from, this can be a cycle

Life is about change

  • Adam was alone, Adam had pets, Adam got married, Adam had kids who fought, and so on and so forth
  • Abraham went from one place to another but he was never lost.  In fact he was looking for a city
