2.     Authority

a.     Matthew 8:5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, 6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. 7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. 8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. 9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to  this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. 10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. 11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven. 12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee.                               i.         He understood authority and knew it when he saw it - and he saw authority in Jesus.  He believed - belief begats authority! Does it always work? NO

1.     Acts 19:13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. 14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva , a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. 15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? 16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. KJV

a.     It seems that they believed in the power only of Christ but not the person - they did not know Him therefore they did not command the authority that Christ commanded.  Their belief was in word only - shallow.

1.     Second Coming

a.     Those old movies they used to make us watch to scare us, those movies should excite us!  We should not try to scare people with the thought of His coming but get them looking forward to it!

2.     What We Know About Heaven 

a.     No more time

                            i.         Not just a lot of time but the complete absence of time!

                          ii.         No more pain 

                         iii.         No more death 

                         iv.         No more sorrow

And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him. 15 And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified. KJV

2.    Back Story 

a.    There really is none. What we know of Barabbas . . . 

                               i.         His name means on of the father/son of Abba

                             ii.         We know he was a robber/murderer/insurrectionist

                           iii.         That is just about all we know of him.

a.    Best friend had just died of an OD - he asked why God would not take him instead of his lost friend . . .

b.    No one but God really knows - but we can spend a lifetime wondering and thanking God for the chance we have been given all the while leading others to our Lord!
