What happened?

·       In 1963, the U.S. Supreme Court case Abington School District v. Schempp ruled that mandatory Bible reading and prayer in public schools were unconstitutional, violating the First Amendment's Establishment Clause, which prohibits government endorsement of religion. The ruling didn't outlaw the Bible itself but prohibited school-sponsored religious activities, clarifying that while the Bible could be studied academically, official religious exercises were not permitted in public education.
