I. Light And Dark
a. Genesis 1:1In the beginning God created the Heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darknesswas upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God dividedthe lightfrom the darkness.KJV
i. Darkness- OT:2822 choshek (kho-shek'); from OT:2821; the dark; hence (literally) darkness; figuratively, misery,destruction, death, ignorance, sorrow, wickedness: KJV - dark (-ness), night, obscurity.
1. John 3:19And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. KJV
ii. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters . . .
1. Up to 60% of the human adult body is water. According to H.H. Mitchell, Journal of Biological Chemistry 158, the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones are watery: 31%.
a. It is interesting that this figure diminishes somewhat as a person gets older. We literally “dry out” as we get older. Listen to what Jesus said to us about children . . .
i. Matthew 18:3And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. KJV
2. John 14:17Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. KJV
a. God not only wants to move UPON you (the FACE of the waters) but to also move IN and THROUGH you . . .Psalms 42:7Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me KJV
i. The deep things (Spirit) of God are calling to the deep within you.
II. Called And Placed To Shine
a. Matthew 5:14Ye are the lightof the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. KJV

1. NT:5457 phos (foce); from an obsolete phao (to shineor make manifest, especially by rays; compare NT:5316, NT:5346); luminousness (in the widest application, nat. or artificial, abstract or concrete, literal or figurative): KJV - fire, light.
a. Our job is to “make manifest” and represent Jesus on earth today. We are to go into and illuminate dark places with the Light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ
b. Many Christians spend a great deal of time trying to “fit in” to “get along” and to be liked. That is not our job. God is not concerned if you have an honorable seat in the group or our names in lights, God is not concerned if we are liked or not. God has placed us “ for such a time as this” in dark places where many times there will be great opposition in order for our light to shine through the dark. Sometimes when darkness flees bad things are uncovered, that is not our primary goal or focus but it will happen. When the lights come on things that went unnoticed in the dark become manifest and must be dealt with, or at least acknowledged. Just remember, you are not here to make friends, you are here to make disciples!’ Remember this – a flashlight does not shout out to follow it or scream how dark it is – it just simply shines and lights the way!!!
i. You are not called to fit in.
ii. You are not called to be like all those around you.
iii. You are called to shine light into darkness!
