2. Why A Sermon On Sex?
a. You may be thinking why? Why do we need to discuss this in year, is there really anything to talk about? Is there anything we need to hear about this subject that is honestly just a little embarrassing and makes us uncomfortable? Is it really that big of a deal? Or maybe you are thinking this doesn’t touch my home, we have had " the talk" with our kids and they are raised in Church and would just NEVER. . .

· Over 40 million Americans are regular visitors to porn sites. That is over 12% of the population. The average visit lasts 6 minutes and 29 seconds
· There are around 42 million porn websites, which totals around 370 million pages of porn.
· The porn industry’s annual revenue is more than the NFL, NBA, and MLB combined. It is also more than the combined revenues of ABC, CBS, and NBC. Pornography is a 90+ BILLION dollar a year industry
· 47% of families in the United States reported that pornography is a problem in their home. Pornography use increases the marital infidelity rate by more than 300%.
· 11 is the average age that a child is first exposed to porn, and 94% of children will see porn by the age of 14.
· 56% of American divorces involve one party having an “obsessive interest” in pornographic websites.
· 70% of Christian youth pastors report that they have had at least one teen come to them for help in dealing with pornography in the past 12 months.
· 68% of church-going men and over 50% of pastors view porn on a regular basis. Of young Christian adults 18-24 years old, 76% actively search for porn.
· 59% of pastors said that married men seek their help for porn use.
· 33% of women aged 25 and under search for porn at least once per month.
· Only 13% of self-identified Christian women say they never watch porn—87% of Christian women have watched porn.
· 55% of married men and 25% of married women say they watch porn at least once a month.
· 57% of pastors say porn addiction is the most damaging issue in their congregation. 69% say porn has adversely impacted the church.

· Hot stove illustration
o Will passion and honestly love we swipe at the hand of a small child who reached to grab a hot pan on a stove, we just don’t want them to get burned.
o Are we doing our job as a parent if we only warn of the bad things that can happen if you grab a hot pan and not tell how wonderful a hot stove can be to cook food?
o People need to know, they want to know, they are curious at an early age about sex and sexuality, and be sure that SOMEONE is going to teach them what they want to know -
· What is the normal human response when you are told you cannot have something, or when there is a secret that you are not a part of?
· Will it be someone that loves and trusts them and wants God's best for their lives who has holy and righteous answers or
· Will it be someone with a world view of sex and sexuality
· Story from Shyla - substitute 6-7 years ago and had kids passing around dirty pics at school in 2nd grade
· Because we are embarrassed and have been taught - or rather have not been taught biblical truths about sex, we come to our own conclusions and they are as varied as you can get.
· What does the Bible say? Did you know there are somewhere around 187 verses in the Word of God that have to do with sex or sexuality?
