1.   Pitiful

a.    What comes to mind when you hear the word pitiful

                             i.         Sad?

                           ii.         Less fortunate?

                         iii.         Underprivileged?

2.   The More Something Changes

a.    Huey Lewis song - The more something changes the more it stays the same

                             i.         2 Corinthians 4:8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; 10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. 11 For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. 12 So then death worketh in us, but life in you. 13 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; 14 Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you. 15 For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. 16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; 18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.KJV

3.   Where Our Hopes Are Placed

a.    We have been beaten into submission.  Our goal is no longer to reach heaven, or to make it through the year, or the month, or even the week, we pray for strength to last the day.  Our vision has been blurred by the close u p staring over a lifeteime at a monitor that shows what we don’t want to see.  Look above, look beyond.  See beyond the miry clay to the mountain top where our feet stand on The Rock.  See beyond

                             i.         It has become hard for us to see beyond our next tragedy, even beyond our current one

4.   The Miserables

a.    1 Corinthians 15:19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. KJV

b.   1 Corinthians 15:19 If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied. NASB

5.   Looking Unto Jesus

a.    Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. KJV
