2026.04.29 - Collision - OT & NT

1.     Same Story 

a.     Old Testament & New Testament

                               i.         OT is NT concealed

                             ii.         NT  is OT revealed

                            iii.         OT is God pointing to Jesus

                            iv.         NT is Jesus pointing to God

                             v.         OT shows us what sin  is 

                            vi.         NT shows us what grace is 

                          vii.         OT speaks of Moses

                         viii.         NT speaks of Christ 

                            ix.         OT has a mountain called Sinai

                             x.         NT has a mountain called Calvary

                            xi.         OT has a Garden in Eden where man's will prevailed

                          xii.         NT has a Garden in Gethsemane where man's will died

                         xiii.         OT man was a breaker of God's covenant

                         xiv.         NT Christ was the Giver of a new covenant

                          xv.         All things that began in the first book of the OT were ended or fulfilled in last book of the NT 

                         xvi.         In the OT one went up a mountain to get 10 commandments - in the NT 120 went to an upper room to receive a Baptism of Fire

2.     Story of  a man, a family, a nation and The God

a.     A man

                                            i.        OT is the story of the first Adam

                                           ii.        NT is the story of the Last Adam

                                         iii.        In the OT deliverer is Moses

                                         iv.        In the NT Deliverer is Christ

                                           v.        Adam to  Abraham is the history of humanity

b.     A family 

                                            i.        OT is the story of Abraham's family

                                           ii.        NT is the story of Family of God

                                         iii.        OT is the story of Ruth's family 

                                         iv.        In the NT is the story of her sons Family 

                                           v.        In the OT testament is the story of Abrahams biological family 

                                         vi.        In the NT is the story of Abrahams spiritual family

c.     A Nation 

                                            i.        OT is the story of Israel 

                                           ii.        NT is the story of a holy nation of kings & priests

                                         iii.        From Abraham to Christ is the story of the birth of a nation

d.     God

                                            i.        OT is the story of man seeking to be like God

                                           ii.        NT is the story of God becoming a man 

                                         iii.        OT is the story of sin separating man from God

                                         iv.        NT  is the story of grace reconciling man to God

3.     Onward the story goes

a.     OT is creation of the world - NT is born Savior of the world 

b.     OT is the fall of man - NT God picks man up

c.     OT there was a flood of water that destroyed man - NT was a flood of fire from Heaven in to help save man 

d.     OT Babel was built for man to be like God - NT temple (of Christ's body) was destroyed b/c God became a man 

e.     OT Abraham became a father of many sons - NT many sons called Abraham to be like the Father

f.      OT blood was applied to the house - NT blood was applied to the heart

g.     OT conquest of the Promised Land - NT hell is taken captive

4.     Bible Study 

a.     You cannot really understand the OT without reading the New Testament

b.     You cannot really understand the NT without reading the Old Testament 

c.     Both the OT & NT are the same story and the same Book and yet they are 2 different promises of God fulfilled in 2 great covenants written in 66 books by 40 or more authors of a period of more than 1K years.

d.     In the OT we are shown

                               i.         What sin is

                             ii.         That we cannot make it on our own

                            iii.         That left with no leader, King or God we will suffer

                            iv.         That we are not "good" at all 

                             v.         We are hopelessly lost

e.     In the NT we are shown

                               i.         What grace is 

                             ii.         That we can do all things through Christ Who strengthens us

                            iii.         Christ is our King and Jehovah is our God and through Him we will be blessed

                            iv.         We are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus 

                             v.         We have eternal hope in Christ alone

5.     It All Points To Jesus 

a.     He is the Book . . .

                               i.         Psalms 40:7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me, 8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart. KJV

                             ii.         Hebrews 10:7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. KJV

b.     OT begins with God the Father

c.     NT begins w/ God the Son

d.     The OT points to the NT - The NT confirms and fulfills the OT

e.     Law was given by Moses - grace and truth came from Jesus
